Smart Choices, Strong Minds: How Our Students Learn to Tackle Peer Pressure

At Brahmavid, we believe that preparing students for life is just as important as preparing them for exams. As part of our ongoing life skills development program, students across grades participate in interactive sessions on Peer Pressure and Substance Use Awareness.

These sessions are designed to help students understand how peer influence affects their decisions, especially when it comes to risky behaviours like substance use.

In every session, students explore the 5 stages of the addiction cycle:

  1. Initial Use
  2. Misuse
  3. Tolerance/Dependence
  4. Addiction
  5. Relapse

Through engaging discussions, relatable examples, and brain-based insights, they learn how substances like alcohol, nicotine, opioids, and stimulants can interfere with the adolescent brain, affecting memory, emotions, and overall mental well-being.

A major focus is on the role of peer pressure. Students discover how the need for social acceptance can make it difficult to say “no” to harmful behaviours, and more importantly, they are taught how to say no — and mean it.

Skills They Practise:

  1. Responding to peer pressure with confidence
  2. Using exit strategies in uncomfortable situations
  3. Choosing supportive peer groups
  4. Building personal boundaries and self-esteem

What They Learn:

I don’t need to follow the crowd to be liked

It’s okay to say no. True friends will respect my choices.

These sessions aim to build self-awareness, courage, and decision-making skills, empowering students to make smart, safe, and healthy choices in real-life situations.
By addressing peer pressure as a continuous conversation, not a one-time topic, we equip our students with tools that last a lifetime.
